- About | Shirley for Chicopee
Meet Shirley I was raised in Chicopee by a single mother, who worked hard to provide for our family. I am a proud product of the Chicopee public schools, attending Stefanik Elementary, Bellamy Middle, and graduated from Chicopee High School in 2007 with honors. In high school, I served as class President, President of the Art Club, Deputy Commander in JROTC, attended Girls State, and volunteered at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. I am the fourth of five children, and was raised Catholic with a strong emphasis on public service , including military and law enforcement. My older brother has been in the Air Force for 17 years, and my uncle and cousins served in the marines. I enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 20 during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan out of a sense of duty to our country , and served until my honorable discharge in July 2020. I served as Loadmaster in the 337th Airlift Squadron out of Westover ARB, and eventually earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. I was proud to be a part of the Women in Aviation Initiative . While serving in the Air Force and raising my daughter, I completed a Bachelor’s at Elms College. By 2015, I saved enough to purchase my first home in Chicopee. I secured a full-time position as Veterans Director for Congressman Richard E. Neal . During my time there, I received all kinds of calls from Western Mass veterans, and assisted them with issues ranging from mortgage foreclosures and utility shut downs, to death and funeral assistance, to calls from senior citizens trying to contact Medicare to cover prescriptions or daily necessities. I helped hundreds of people access healthcare and learned the power of government when it works for you. After several years of aiding constituents, I decided to further my education to continue serving our community in a greater capacity. At the age of 29, I enrolled at Western New England School of law . Today, I live in Aldenville with my 8 year old daughter , Winter, and work as an educator at Chicopee High . I’m not a political insider. I’ve been passionately protecting and serving our community. Most politicians do what Boston State House leaders tell them to do; I’ll answer to the residents of Chicopee alone. I love this city, and it would be my honor to continue my service as the next State Representative. SUPPORT SHIRLEY TODAY follow Shirley

- Priorities | Shirley for Chicopee
priorities SERVICE Support SAFETY Veterans and Seniors As a veteran who has worked for veterans service orgs, I know the importance of ensuring access to health care and PTSD support. I’ll secure funds to stop senior property tax increases and provide quality affordable long-term and in-home care. Small Business and Transportation I’ll work to secure grants and no interest loans for small businesses to recover from the pandemic. To create jobs and improve quality of life, I will advocate for road repairs, West-East rail service, and expanded PVTA routes in Chicopee. Housing and the Environment We are facing a statewide housing crisis. I’ll fight for more affordable homeownership and rental assistance programs. We need to improve Chicopee’s air quality to combat asthma rates, and protect our open spaces so our kids have a place to play. Education and Young People As a mom, I know the importance of social-emotional health, youth jobs, and a curriculum that centers civics, the arts, phys ed, STEM and financial literacy for our kids. I’ll work to upgrade school buildings and ensure they are safe and healthy. Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods We can prevent violence and keep people safe through fighting poverty, stopping the flow of dangerous opioids, and improving police-community relations. I’ll advocate for patient needs over hospital CEO bonuses, and fight to ensure a lasting COVID recovery. Women and Girls When women succeed, Chicopee succeeds. We need to address the crisis of violence against women, protect reproductive and maternal care, and expand vocational training and technical education to create good-paying jobs for mothers, women and girls. The fair share amendment I’m a strong proponent of the Fair Share Amendment, which will tax the richest 1% of Massachusetts who have routinely benefited from tax breaks. I’ll advocate for Chicopee to get its “fair share” of this revenue to close the achievement gap in our public schools, expand universal Pre-K, and improve PVTA service. Questions?
